Marriage Testimony: A Pilot & A Missionary Soar To New Heights In The Mountains of Mexico
Will & Hannah met through the Helpmeet Singles network, and now serve together as missionaries to an unreached people.
Four years ago, Helpmeet Singles (then Dominion Dating) had a booth at the Fight Laugh Feast Conference. One of the first single adults we talked with was a young man named Will.
I was super impressed by Will, and with his sister. Still in their early 20s, they were remarkably mature, articulate, and accomplished. I knew they were the caliber of single adults we hoped to serve with our Christian matchmaking network.
After Helpmeet Singles finally launched, Will signed up. In God’s providence, he met his wife Hannah through us, and they were the first couple to be blessed with marriage through the Helpmeet Singles network.
Will is a professional pilot, and Hannah grew up farming on a remote mission-field, high up in the mountains of Mexico. Since wedding their two lives together, they have joined Hannah’s family in an exciting mission work that includes farming, flying, painting, church planting, and beautiful music.
We’re thrilled to sit down with Will and Hannah to hear about their pursuit of marriage, and about the mission God is taking them on. If you enjoy their testimony and want to hear more of their story, be sure to check out our full-length interview on the Pursuit of Marriage podcast below.
What made you decide to try Helpmeet Singles?
Will:
This was the dating website that got me excited about dating websites…I just had to wait two years before the beta launched.
Hannah:
I grew up on the mission field, and I was not finding any good options in my town. So my father decided to sign me up.
How would you describe your experience meeting your spouse in our network, and pursuing marriage?
Will:
Within a week of getting signed up, I met Hannah. A week later I was pretty excited, and within a month we met each other in person. We were engaged a couple months later.
Hannah:
It was very good! We got to chat and quickly switched to email!
Share some ways God has blessed and grown you in your first year+ of marriage.
Will:
The first year of marriage was crazy, but we have been blessed in many ways. My job got turned upside down, we had our first child, remodeled the house, and answered God’s call to the mission field. We both made significant sacrifices to keep our family in one place during this time. But it was very much worth it.
Hannah:
I have a lazy and selfish heart. The Lord has worked powerfully through the added responsibility of running a household. And He has sanctified us both through each other. That is how all the best marriages work!
Would you recommend Helpmeet Singles to others. If so, why?
Will:
Absolutely—what sets this [network] apart from all the others (the stated mission wasn’t good enough?!) is the accountability and readiness it demands from its applicants. By the time you read through someone’s profile, you generally know enough about the person to focus on normal, light conversation—not theological interviews.
Hannah:
Yes! I have already pointed several people your way. It was a good experience, I found my husband there and the Lord has blessed us greatly!
Mission To An Unreached People
Will and Hannah have just begun their work in Mexico early this year as second-generation missionaries to the Tarahumara Indians up in the mountains of the Sierra Madre. The Tarahumara are a largely unreached people-group who only possess snippets of the Bible in their own language.
As Will explains,
Hannah’s father Andrew has been preaching the Gospel of the kingdom to these people for the past 20 years, and we have recently been privileged to see our first church plant established. Hannah and I are specializing in translating Psalms to metered Spanish and Tarahumara, and we also spend a good deal of time working on the family farm, which is used to demonstrate good farming practices and build relationships with our community. Eventually, we would also like to incorporate an airplane into our ministry to improve safety and efficiency. God has provided our clan with a hangar, an airstrip, and a professional pilot, and now we’re waiting for the proper time for the airplane.
