I was super impressed by Will, and with his sister. Still in their early 20s, they were remarkably mature, articulate, and accomplished. I knew they were the caliber of single adults we hoped to serve with our Christian matchmaking network.

After Helpmeet Singles finally launched, Will signed up. In God’s providence, he met his wife Hannah through us, and they were the first couple to be blessed with marriage through the Helpmeet Singles network.

Will is a professional pilot, and Hannah grew up farming on a remote mission-field, high up in the mountains of Mexico. Since wedding their two lives together, they have joined Hannah’s family in an exciting mission work that includes farming, flying, painting, church planting, and beautiful music.

Mission To An Unreached People

Will and Hannah have just begun their work in Mexico early this year as second-generation missionaries to the Tarahumara Indians up in the mountains of the Sierra Madre. The Tarahumara are a largely unreached people-group who only possess snippets of the Bible in their own language.

As Will explains,

Hannah’s father Andrew has been preaching the Gospel of the kingdom to these people for the past 20 years, and we have recently been privileged to see our first church plant established. Hannah and I are specializing in translating Psalms to metered Spanish and Tarahumara, and we also spend a good deal of time working on the family farm, which is used to demonstrate good farming practices and build relationships with our community. Eventually, we would also like to incorporate an airplane into our ministry to improve safety and efficiency. God has provided our clan with a hangar, an airstrip, and a professional pilot, and now we’re waiting for the proper time for the airplane.

What made you decide to try Helpmeet Singles?

Shawn:

Through my 20s I wasn’t open to online dating. I always told myself if I was still single at 30, I would give it a shot. I started hearing about the upcoming launch of Helpmeet when I was 28 from some solid podcasts I regularly listened to. I was impressed and wanted to support the mission of Helpmeet even if it didn’t produce a spouse for me personally.

Allyvianna:

I had tried many other reformed dating apps for many years and had no success. When I heard about Helpmeet singles, I was very intrigued by how specific the profiles were and how well vetted the candidates were.

How would you describe your experience meeting your spouse in our network and pursuing marriage?

Shawn:

It was really nice to start from a place of so much commonality and to have so many important questions answered from the start. Love the Lord? Yes. Marriage-minded? Yes. Want kids? Yes. Want to homeschool (in both our cases)? Yes. Along with common interests and doctrinal specifics. We messaged for about a week, video chatted for a few weeks, then I made the 17 hour drive to meet her family and asked her to be my girl. We were married within about 7 months.

Allyvianna:

I had a great experience. I was on for awhile with no success (or so i thought). Shawn had messaged me even though I had no pictures shortly after helpmeet went live. We chatted back and forth once and both ignored the other for different reasons. After I had ignored his last message for over 5 months, a friend encouraged me to message him back. So glad I did! We dated for 4 months then got engaged, 3 months later.

Share some ways God has blessed and grown you in your first year + of marriage.

Shawn:

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12) I got married when I was 32, and that verse was a theme in my life for so many single years. Though I was often lonely, I wasn’t willing to settle for a spouse that I wasn’t thrilled about. Allyvianna is my desire fulfilled, and she is such a blessing to me. Marriage also has its sanctifying challenges which, ultimately, help to make each of us into the man/woman of God that He made us to be. We’ve now been married 10 months, and we are praying that God will bless us with a child.

Allyvianna:

Our first year has been so fun. We have had many opportunities to travel together and have made some really cool memories. Also, it has been a year of seeing the Lords faithfulness in both of our lives in answering our prayers and coming to a full understanding of how His timing is truly perfect. Of course, marriage is also very sanctifying and continues to grow both of us to give of ourselves and learn to exemplify Christ and His church.

Housekeeping Matters

If you’re currently a HMS network user, make sure you have added at least two photos (an up-close headshot plus an action shot). For optimum engagement, we recommend 4-6 pictures total. Make sure you are modest and decent in your photos.

Profiles without pictures will be displayed at the bottom of searches and are unlikely to receive much notice or engagement.

One practical takeaway from the above testimony: Our network requires a proactive approach to the pursuit of marriage. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you’re curious about someone in network, send them a message, and/or message them back.

Right now we have 168 men and 116 women in our network. We’re working to scale this up, and to get a more balanced male/female ratio.

In case you missed the memo, our match-making network (formerly ‘Dominion Dating’) re-branded last year—to Helpmeet Singles. We aspire to be the network for godly single men looking for a helpmeet, and for godly single women looking to be a helpmeet!

Our goal is to scale to 500 network users (with a 50/50 split between men and women). Once we hit our goal—hopefully this year—we will monetize at a significantly discounted price. (Right now we have 157 men and 118 women in our network = 275 total users).

Our rebrand is live!

This is the last email you’ll ever get from Dominion Dating.

Towards the end of last year we announced our decision to rebrand. We appreciate everyone’s patience, and we’re pleased to announce that our rebrand is live.

We have a new name for a new season, but our mission and values remain the same.

As we said in our last update:

“Our mission remains to fuel a marriage reformation by partnering with pastors, parents, and biblically-faithful singles. We are not going to compromise our values or convictions. But we have come to realize that, for many of our ideal partners, these values and convictions are not communicated in our name.

Both dominion and dating are words with a lot of cultural baggage. This means we end up spending more time explaining our name than actually promoting our network. There are pastors and singles who share our vision, but are relucant to partner with us because the name would be a thorn in their side.

You might recall that we held a vote back in November to solicit feedback. The vote ended up pretty evenly split—but we weren’t sold on either name—so we went back to the drawing board and, ultimately, decided on an entirely different name.

We needed a name that clearly communicates what we’re all about, but also one that can’t be easily misunderstood or misconstrued. It’s no exageration to say that we racked our brains, for weeks on end, trying to come up with the right name. In the end, we’re confident we’ve landed on a good, strong name that will carry us forward towards achieving our mission—“Guiding biblically-faithful singles to find biblically-faithful spouses.”

How we’re going to scale our network

Our “Stay Local” Campaign is aimed at helping you to network with singles in your geographical area. We’ll offer a number of resources in this tool-kit including:

• Sponsored social media ads targeting your specific area

• Free subscriptions for sharing our fliers in your area

• Toolkit for hosting a Singles Mixer

4. Testimony Page

So far, we have four marriages (that we know of) which have resulted from our network. We’ll be rolling out a testimony page, where married couples can share their stories to encourage others to give us a shot.

5. Miscellaneous Marketing

• A backer has graciously offered to let us run a free commercial on his TV station, which broadcasts to a closely-aligned Christian audience.

• We’ll do paid social media ads & marketing as budget allows.

Did You Know? In third century Rome, newly married men were granted a reprieve from fighting in war. This made marriage a conflict of interest, as Rome needed every fighting man available to expand the Empire through ongoing military conquest. In order to keep his army size from shrinking, Emperor Claudius II forbade young men from marrying.

While the historical facts are not entirely clear, the story goes that a Roman bishop named Valentine began secretly marrying young Christian men and women. These secret marriages served two purposes—they kept Christian men from needlessly dying for a pagan cause, and, more to the point, they upheld the sanctity of marriage in a world of sexual immorality. As Hebrews 13:4 tells us, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”

According to tradition, on February 14, 269, Bishop Valentine was caught and executed for the subversive act of helping young Christians marry in a world that forbade marriage. Legend has it that Valentine’s last words were written to a young woman he had befriended, which he signed, “from your Valentine.”

Some 1700 years later, Valentine’s Day has become one of the biggest and most celebrated holidays in the Western World. The irony is that, much like in the ancient Roman Empire, marriage has come to be seen as a conflict of interest. The sexual revolution and the feminist movement have worked in tandem to destroy the foundations of marriage and family. We live in a day of broken homes and rampant sexual immorality. Young men are encouraged to adopt a carefree “playboy” lifestyle, while young women are encouraged to focus on their career ambitions, in pursuit of becoming “strong, independent women.” A pervasive hookup culture feeds both of these pursuits.

As a result, marriage rates have plummeted to historic lows.

The ongoing collapse of marriage coincides with the collapse of Christian faith in our nation. According to one report, Gen Z is the least religious generation in American history. In this age of widespread apostasy, it’s harder than ever for godly singles to find godly spouses.

In a world that despises marriage, we need more courageous pastors, like Valentine—men who rightfully esteem marriage and call young Christians to it, equipping them for a faithful, fruitful life together.

Rest assured, we will continue our mission of “guiding biblically-faithful singles to find biblically-faithful spouses.” We may just be the best-kept secret since Valentine.

Branding Update

As we mentioned in our last update…

After much deliberation, we have landed on a new brand name that we believe is going to serve us very well moving forward into the new year. You can expect a forthcoming announcement, in the weeks ahead, to unveil our new name and logo.

Happy belated Thanksgiving!

It’s been a while since our last newsletter. Here’s a quick update on some important developments.

Some metrics

Since launching, we have verified 299 users in our network. At present we have 249 active users—144 men and 105 women. (Most of our users are in their 20s & 30s).

We have a solid level of communication with 210 users sending a total of 3,846 messages (an average of 18 messages each).

So far, this has translated into four engagements (that we know of), with two weddings!

We’ve also suspended 11 accounts, and filtered out dozens and dozens of accounts that were not in alignment with our values and convictions. Eliminating these substandard profiles is critical to us, to ensure the integrity and quality of our network. We want you to have confidence that whoever you message on our platform will be likedminded and looking for marriage.

The limiting factor (and the reason we’ve not yet monetized) is our size. As you can see, Dominion Dating is still a small network.

In order to scale, we’ve recognized that we will need to rebrand.

It’s time for a rebrand

Our mission remains to fuel a marriage reformation by partnering with pastors, parents, and biblically-faithful singles. We are not going to compromise our values or convictions. But we have come to realize that, for many of our ideal partners, these values and convictions are not communicated in our name.

Additionally, some of our critics continue to smear our brand online.

With that in mind, we’re moving away from the words dominion and dating.

• Dating has a lot of worldly connotations that we ourselves would prefer to be distanced from. We generally talk about the pursuit of marriage instead (unfortunately that’s a mouthful).

• Dominion is something we have not changed our views on even slightly. We wholeheartedly affirm the centrality of the dominion mandate in understanding Christian marriage. But we recognize that to many who are not as familiar with these concepts, it implies domination—and we want our name to better emphasize our core mission of helping you marry, and marry well. Our name should not be a needless hindrance; rather, it should effectively communicate what we’re all about.

With that in mind, as we look to renew our efforts to scale our network, we have a couple of new names in mind:

Personal note

Several months back, I (Brandon) was wrongfully fired from my pastorate. This was a major setback, and it knocked us out of the saddle for a moment. We have received tremendously helpful feedback (thank you), from a number of Dominion Daters, seeking clarification on our requirement for a discipleship reference. After consideration, we have revised this language to hopefully eliminate any confusion.

The spiritual oversight requirement explained

To be under spiritual oversight means that you have intentionally submitted yourself to the discipleship of a qualified man. Scripture’s qualifications are as follows:

beyond reproach, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, who are not accused of dissipation, or rebellious. 7 For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of dishonest gain, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to reprove those who contradict. (Titus 1:6-9)

We accept the following overseers for applicants:

1. Local church pastors/elders. This is the ordinary expectation for the majority of our applicants. Normatively, all Christians should be under the authoritative shepherding of the pastors/elders in a sound church—namely, a church that upholds the basic doctrinal standards of Christianity, as outlined in our Member Requirements. (We recognize house-churches as legitimate local churches.) Your reference should be from the pastor/elder that you are directly accountable to. We will accept a reference from anyone who is a legitimately-ordained pastor. Unordained small group leaders or “youth pastors” do not count, except perhaps in de facto cases.

2. Christian father. We recognize that for many young people, their primary discipler is still their father. Therefore, if you have never married and are still living at home, we accept a reference from your Christian father, provided he meets the following criteria:

   1. He is himself a Christian who affirms our doctrinal statement;

   2. He is under the spiritual oversight of a sound local church. This second requirement is necessary because the Lord Jesus does not permit us to muddy the distinction between a household and a church. They are separate and distinct spheres of authority, and a father who does not recognize this is acting as a law unto himself—the very thing our pastoral verification system is designed to avoid.

3. De facto church pastor. This option is reserved for cases where a sound local church does not exist. If you cannot find a church within driving distance that upholds our basic doctrinal standards, we are willing to consider good-faith de facto alternatives. A de facto church is a body of believers that functions as a church, even if it is not officially constituted as one. In particular, it must have men who are qualified as pastors according to scripture, and who act as pastors in their essential function, even if they are not officially ordained as such.

Note: we do recognize that pastor’s wives, or other elder women, may also disciple younger women (Titus 2). However, it is the pastor himself who is ultimately charged with overseeing this work. Therefore, it is his endorsement that we require for verifying your application to use Dominion Dating.

What your overseer will need to do

When you fill in the application form, you will need to enter the name and email of the man acting as your overseer. He will be sent an email with a link an online form. He will need to complete this form to attest to your fitness for membership at Dominion Dating. (It will take him no longer than 5 minutes.)

Note that Christian fathers and de facto overseers may be asked for extra information about their circumstances.

Minor Inconvenience, Major Impact

Our verified pastoral reference requirement is a minor inconvenience for applicants—but diligent gatekeeping on the front end helps ensure the safety and integrity of our platform. Obviously no system is 100% foolproof—but this is one of multiple features we’ve intentionally put in place to better serve and protect our Dominion Daters. It is a major pillar in establishing a strong network of doctrinally-sound, marriage-minded Christian singles.

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The bottom line, here, is that we want our network of Christian singles to be as spiritually healthy and mature as possible. This can’t happen if Dominion Dating gets flooded with singles who are disconnected from local fellowship, and are not under spiritual oversight.

Proverbs 18:1-2 tells us that whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. There is no place on Dominion Dating for renegade singles. If you’re not willing to submit your life to God’s Word, including oversight from his under-shepherds, then you’re the wrong fit for our network. 

We understand that these are less than ideal times. Many Christian singles are isolated due to circumstance, and unable to find a faithful church and pastor. We’re committed to working with you, provided you make a sincere effort on your end.

Together, we can build a much needed resource to help today’s church right the ship of a worsening marriage crisis.

We’ve now added a login link dominiondating.com, so you can easily log into your dashboard.

Take a minute to login and update your profile picture. We do not want to become another dating network overpopulated with “faceless” profiles. Your picture represents you in the room, so select a great picture of your beautiful smile, and add another full-frame picture of yourself to give people a better picture of who you are. We recommend 8-10 pictures, or so. (Make sure they’re recent. Keep it classy and follow the dress code.)

Reminder: If you have not yet “migrated” your profile to our new platform, you’ll need to simply change your password, and log back in. This is relevant for anyone who joined prior to February 2024.

The Blessing Of A Solid Church & Pastor:

Check out this encouraging testimony from Pastor Michael Clary (on X) about a couple recently engaged in his church.

He continues:

…The woman has been in my church for over ten years but the man is from a different church. As they started dating, he expected to spend a lot of time convincing her of what the Bible teaches about manhood, womanhood, marriage, sexuality, and building a faithful household. But he didn't need to. Every time he brought up a subject he expected her to resist, they were already on the same page because she'd been hearing it from the pulpit for years. What made me tear up was him simply saying, "thank you for preparing my fiance to be a godly wife." In our day, biblical sexuality is not a popular subject, but the modern church has a vitamin deficiency in this area. Pastor may resist doing it because of the criticism they'll face. But last night, I got to see the other side of the coin. This man is entering marriage with a wonderful, godly woman who has been eating spiritual vitamins now for a decade, and he's the prime beneficiary of the health it is has produced in her life. His simple "thank you" meant the world to me, because I knew what it meant. He was giving thanks to God for a blessing that will last the rest of his life.

What a blessing to start marriage off on solid footing around shared biblical beliefs. This is why we require all Dominion Daters to be under the pastoral oversight of a solid church & pastor. We know many of you are doing the best you can in your location. May the Lord bless your earnest efforts.

Be Safe & Discerning on Dominion Dating

We do our best to vet and monitor every user for safety & rule violations. However, no online gatekeeping is 100% effective at keeping out creeps, scammers, or sinful behavior. When you choose to participate in online dating, you need to understand the inherent risks & remain vigilant. This goes for our users, and for our pastors and parents of users. If you see something that is a red flag or a rule violation, screenshot & report it. You can report it through your dashboard, or email feedback@dominiondating.com directly.

If someone is rude or crass to you, we recommend simply blocking. If you believe the offense is of a more serious nature, you may report it. We will evaluate and make our own determination, and let you know.

We’re thrilled to announce that our Version 2 platform is now live!

Our version 2 platform resolves many of the issues which sidelined version 1. You can now upload pictures with ease, as well as enjoy a more reliable email delivery system, and the site will continue to be free to use for the next month or so as we set up payment processing and test functionality. Our tech team has rebuilt the entire dating site using a different coding language (from version 1) which will make troubleshoots and upgrades much easier, going forward.

Dating Guide

We’ve added a dating guide, which you can find in the menu on Version 2. Just click on the menu, and search under your name.

The Dominion Dating Guide is designed to help you navigate the obstacles & pitfalls of online dating with the goal of guiding you from online dating to an in-person pursuit of marriage in a wise, safe & effective manner. 

We take comfort in knowing that God is sovereign over our entire lives, including the pursuit of marriage.  At the same time, God’s sovereignty does not lead us into passive fatalism.  This guide aims to help godly singles walk in the “obedience of faith” towards a life of fruitful, dominion-taking marriage.  We want to see this generation marry and marry well, to the glory of God!

Our guide will also help establish a dating etiquette for Dominion Dating that will make our platform a better dating experience for everyone.

As you begin dating, keep in mind that you’re looking for someone who checks four boxes: 1) Physical attraction 2) Pleasant Company 3) Character & Maturity 4) Values & Vision Alignment.

The dating guide is in blog form for the moment, but will soon be available in a format that’s easier to navigate and refer back to, as needed.

   Note: The migration to Version 2 may take some time to update, and there’s a chance you may still see the old website initially. If that happens, please wait an hour or two, and try again. We’re closely monitoring the migration to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

6. Practice good reporting. If you see someone clearly violating our Member’s Agreement (here), please report, with screenshot(s) if possible. (Eg. Blatantly immodest pictures, harrassing or inappropriate messages, internet stalking, profile content that goes against our stated convictions). There

   Online dating, like everything else online, comes with inherent risks. We take your safety very seriously. We are drafting a policy for rule violation which will go into effect soon. We have a number of safety protcols in place, including a verified pastoral endorsment requirement. However, the best line of defense is for everyone to actively keep an eye out for the safety and well being of this online network.

We’re elated (and also somewhat relieved) to announce that our version 2 platform has passed initial testing, and we’re working to make this available to users some time in early to mid February.

Our web development team has put in a lot of hours and done a great job to give us the functionality we need for accomplishing our mission of “guiding biblically-faithful singles to find biblically-faithful spouses.”

Stay Local Initiative

After we launch v2, we’ll roll out a “stay local” initiative to help Dominion Daters connect with like-minded singles living in the same geographical region.

As part of our stay local initiative, we’ll provide a downloadable flier to help promote our distinct dating network in your area, as well as assistance and incentives for those participating.

We aim to be intentional and strategic in how we scale, to help give you, the dater, every advantage in the intentional pursuit of marriage.

Dominion Dating Podcast Re-Launching

In February, we’re re-launching our Dominion Dating podcast as part of our effort to promote and scale Dominion Dating.

At present, we have around 400 like-minded singles who have applied for Dominion Dating, with new people applying most every day. We’ll make that data visible on our website so you can watch Dominion Dating grow in this new year.

• We have still not resolved the picture upload glitch. Our WordPress “fixer” has been unavailable (He’s in high demand.) We were mistaken when we told applicants to submit pictures for manual uploads. It turns out, we cannot manual upload either. We’ll update as soon as this changes. Version 2 fixes this issue.

• We presently have approximately 80 applicants with “unverified” accounts. If your account is still “unverified” then we are still waiting for your pastor/father’s endorsement. (See rules.) Please ask your endorser to check all his inboxes (including spam, promo, etc). If he has not received it, let us know (feedback@dominiondating.com) and we’ll resend the request.

• We will continue with our direct mail “church networking” campaign for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the great leads on churches, Christian colleges, and associations/networks. Submit leads to feedback@dominiondating.com. There are tens of thousands of biblically-faithful singles scattered across our nation (and world). We’re on a mission to find you, and help you find a godly spouse.

No stone unturned—partnering with pastors & churches to fuel a marriage reformation

This week we commenced a direct mail campaign, aimed at networking with churches across America who share our values and convictions on marriage and family.

At 19, I wrote a cheesy love poem to my future wife that mentioned something about leaving no stone unturned in my pursuit to find her. Thankfully, I didn’t marry for another 17 years, so my travesty of a poem was long forgotten before Amanda could read it.

Prolonged singleness was agony, but it taught me a tenacity in turning over stones. All these years later, I’m bringing that same tenacity to Dominion Dating; leave no stone unturned.

Our goal is to connect with 500+ churches per month, and build a network across America. From there, our plan is to do the same in other English-speaking nations.

We’d love to partner with like-minded Christians around the world to help us connect with solid church networks.

Networking Strategy to Scale Dominion Dating

From the beginning, our mission has been to partner with pastors and churches to fuel a marriage reformation. To that end, over the next several months, we’re launching a targeted marketing campaign to hundreds of churches within doctrinally sound networks whose values align with ours.

With the support of local pastors and churches, the potential to scale Dominion Dating into a high-caliber network of godly singles is truly exponential.

The beta trial will continue, free of charge, as we make strides, with your help, towards delivering an end product (service) that will go the distance to connect godly singles.

Hang in there with us. Your presence and user feedback are absolutely vital to the development of Dominion Dating.

What to expect, moving forward

We anticipate that version 1 of Dominion Dating will see limited active duty. It was built on WordPress in the hope of getting something running quickly (we all know how that worked out), so that we could then develop a more refined v2 product.

The exciting news is that we are still developing that v2—it is already in the works!

Tentatively, we hope to launch v2 in 6-12 months. Behind the scenes, we are making steady progress. By migrating to a new platform, Dominion Dating will have far greater functionality and be a much smoother operation.

In the meantime, our tech team will continue to maintain & improve v1 to ensure that it remains as functional as possible as we move towards live launch.

Upon live launch, all Dominion Daters will receive a free 10-day trial, as promised, and all backers will receive their rewards (dating subscriptions) for backing us.

In closing, as we take steps to scale our dating network and move steadily towards live launch, expect Dominion Dating to improve week to week, and to hit a new stride with v2 sometime next year.

Couple of things to be mindful of:

1. The messaging function is somewhat obscure. To message or favorite a profile, click on the gear icon next to their name on their profile. We’re working to make that more intuitive.

2. We’re also working on our capability to dial in your search as close as possible to where you live. In the meantime, you’ll just have to take some initiative on that front. You might try an icebreaker: “Hi, I’m….. and I’m from….. Where are you from?”

3. If you are not yet verified, you can send us an email at help@dominiondating.com We can resend an endorsement to your endorser.

We’ve been working this week on improving profile input and display:

• Fixed the problems with saving user input. Your dashboard should now store everything you enter and not lose any of it.

• Fixed image uploads. We’re still working on some other bugs with images.

• Updated your profile page so you can enter more education and employment information, and have it displayed correctly to other users.

• Improved how your location is displayed to other users. Note: to protect your identity, your location will never be displayed more specifically than your state or region.

We are still working behind the scenes as there are many more issues still to resolve. We are especially trying to get everyone verified. A fair number of pastors haven’t received verification emails, so if that has happened to you, please let us know and we will resend manually.
